On the afternoon of April 16th, I met with Derek Christian at Hitchcocks in Aluchua Florida. Derek is the Director of Perishable Operations. They no longer are no longer being serviced by General Produce, but Derek was Donnie Roundtree's assistant. He was very familiar with our programs and how the process works. We discussed the upcoming crop on both cherries and stone fruit and he is very excited about advertising cherries during the 2015 season. He also said that last year they ran a display contest and said he would be interested in doing it again if we had any dollars to support it. I told him that this would be something I would look into and get back with him. We then visited one of his stores together and spent about 30-40 minutes walking the department and talking produce. The store we went in was very nice, well stocked and the perishable manager which was a lady and very sharp. She could discuss produce with anyone and was an asset to the store.
