John Fujii, I talked to Gelsons about program for this year. John mentioned Hero Pay for LA $5.00 per hour and Long Beach $4.00, tough to run hot ads. He said to run an ad an drop the retail is complicated because cherries are such a big part of their business in the summer. They don’t run hot ads like mainstream retailers: Ralphs and Vons. So dropping the retail a $1.00 or $2.00 a pound can really hurt their bottom line. Their goal is to make the attractive display. They are going to run a late season contest which will include photo, creative point of sale and big displays. He mentioned they were not carrying California cherries yet. He could not believe other retailers had such aggressive retails in early May.
