I met with Ed Osowski. We had a very in depth discussion about this years cherry season. First he struggled with a Calif. ad that fizzled out and a cold late spring , that had customers not in the produce mood due to the cold. When the N/W Cherries started they advertised every week into late Aug. The ads were very successful and the lowest retail week was $1.88 lb. He was so pleased with the sizing this year. His last ad ended this past weekend and he was so pleased that he had excellent volume @$3.99 lb. when grapes were out @ $1.49 lb.He had up to 8 size cherries in the last bags. He did think that the bags contained way to much fruit that made the final cost at $3.99 lb. a turn off. He did feel people were pouring cherries out of the bags and it caused a mess. They advertised Rainiers but he didnt think sales were that great. This was most likely due to the great flavor of the red cherries. They have advertised Wash. St. stone fruit earlier as the local Michigan crop was damaged.
