Ed Yancey
Met with Hitchcocks on the afternoon of Tuesday May 2nd. They have a new produce director Kevin Baldree. He replaced Derek Christian who is no longer with the company. Kevin used to be employed with Food Lion at the retail level and was Derek's assistant for several years. He too mentioned the high price of California items, especially the vegetables. He also brought up the point of the Southeastern peaches being hurt a little more than first expected according to his suppliers. He has always believed in supporting our cherries and realizes the importance of them to the produce department. He hated to hear that they were going to be later this year as they do not usually support California cherries, but may have to this year. But on the positive side he was happy to hear that he would have Cherries to promote in August for a change from past 2 years.
