Met with Mike and :Dale. Mike said that they actually had some pretty good movement last year despite not advertising. We talked about the fact that they did not advertise and he said that they carried a $2.99 price all through the season as part of their EDLP program, and decided that they could not advertise at the $2.99 when others were out at $1.99. They like to advertise cherries but, according to Mike,it just did not make sense last year. We discussed the research that cherries bring in the high ring customers into the store, and Mike said that for the most part, that was pretty much a good portion of their customer anyway. He did say that he does like to advertise cherries and will commit to probably doing at least 3 ads this year, as long as the competition does not go crazy again. Mike asked about doing the demo again and I told him that I was not available this year for a demo. He said that he thought that the demo was valuable and asked what they could do to get one. I offered him the same $2000 that we spent with me doing the demo, which he could use for a local demo service. However, in order to qualify for the demo reimbursement, they must be running an ad during the week of the demo. No ad, no payment. He was agreeable to that and will have the demo service contact me. I will coordinate the demo and meet with the demonstrators to ensure that they have good info and appropriate handouts
