Met with Lenny Siegel, who was recently promoted to Senior Category Manager. Lenny said that despite the promotion, he will continue to be personally responsible for cherries. Last year, they did a couple of contests and they are planning 3 contests again this year. The first will be California fruit, and the other two will be NW and Rainiers. The winner of each will win a trip to the NW to learn more about the industry. Last year, they had their contest supported by both WSFC and by Stemilt. I elected not to ask him if he expected us to participate this year, because that is above and beyond what I am offered to authorize. Lenny mentioned that they are in the process of changing the name of Price Chopper to Market 32. It's is a $300 MM investment in updating their position in the marketplace. Over time, they have evolved into a mostly upscale store and they understand that they are not always the low price leader. A consultant had recommended the change to more reflect who they are today. They were founded in 1932, so that's where the name Market 32 came from.
